successful 2008 run against Republican Jim Oberweis in a special

years by Hastert.

Illinois:
Open Roads Tolling Summer 2004 (2005
Pollie Award Winner)
Illinois Tollway Authority and Governor Rod Blagojevich needed to
inform Chicagoans and Northern Illinois of their “Open Roads”
initiative to vastly modernize Illinois’ toll highways. The
modernization would replace toll plazas with automatic overhead toll
readers such that I-PASS users wouldn’t have to stop to pay
tolls. It would end toll plaza bottlenecks and the pollution that
result from them, while creating some 250,000 jobs over the ten years
it would take to rebuild and expand the roadways. To explain this
$5.3 billion capitol plan to the public while the initiative was under
review, the Chicago Federation of Labor and the Cook County Building
Trades Council commissioned Squier Knapp Dunn and in turn EpandMedia’s
Len Epand to craft a 60-second radio ad. Called “Jet—Open
Roads Tolling,” the spot resulted in a 71% positive response
among those who attended public meetings held by the Authority Board,
and the project is now proceeding. Illinois will soon have the most
modern tollway in the nation. |
